Out of court interpreter/counsel interpreter

Someone who is booked to work with the defence team to interpret any instructions and privileged discussions between counsel and the Deaf client. The Out Of Court interpreter will not interpret the court hearing but will sit with the Deaf client during the case, monitoring the court interpreters and ensuring the interpretation is clear for the Deaf client. They will also interpret any private interactions that counsel and the Deaf client may wish to have during the proceedings. The defence interpreter can also give advice to counsel about deafness, sign language and communication best practices.
