Sometimes known as a Deaf Interpreter or as an RSLI (Relay/Intralingual) on the NRCPD register. This is a professional interpreter who is Deaf.
When interpreting, they will accurately render BSL into another form of sign language or vice versa. They may also work from standard BSL into an adapted form of sign language, tailored to meet specific additional communicationneeds. These could be due to language deprivation, additional learning needs or mental ill health, which could affect language processing. Relay interpreters can also work with Deafblind clients. They will normally work in a team with another hearing BSL interpreter.
